The Launching Hook is a pre-hardmode hook obtained after going to the Dungeon. When used without the hook hitting out any tiles, it quickly launches out by 12 tiles and quickly retracts back in for less than half a second. When it hits a tile, it automatically disappears, but not before launching the player 90 mph~ (145 kmph~) horizontally and vertically. This makes the common hook mobility increase strategy even more effective than it already was. The only drawback to this hook is its pitiful reach, but it still plays into the hook strategy anyway.
