The Ancients Awakened mod has a lot of content planned in the future, so to progress through the mod efficiently, here are the best setups shown below for the 4 main classes: Melee, Ranged, Magic and Summon. Aside from the modded content, also the vanilla content are shown due to the current lack of content the mod has.

Ω means two items must be used together, as they have special interactions when used together.
+ means these items are only used in certain events as they have the highest potential when used then. (Old One's Army for example)
π means you should only use the item if you are confident during boss battles.

Pre-Boss[ | ]
This mod doesn't have too much to offer before defeating any bosses as of now. But like usual, you can smash the orbs located in Evil and Chaos Biomes, explore the Jungle and Caverns, and then, give it a shot at the earlygame bosses.
Pre-Skeletron[ | ]
You must have defeated the mushroom trio, the evil and chaos duo as well as King Slime, Eye of Cthulhu and Queen Bee by now, to be prepared against Skeletron. As the mentioned bosses hold great loot that can really help, gearing up in terms of defense is essential too as there are lots of new armor options for all 4 classes.
Pre-Hardmode[ | ]
After the fall of Skeletron, you should have beaten the 3 challenges and raided the Dungeon as their weapons/materials are required to craft the ultimate biome weapons + armor sets. Also, make sure to loot the Underworld's Shadow Chests as the weapons obtainable from them are still powerful as alternatives. With enough preparations, you should be ready for Wall of Flesh now.
Pre-Mechanical Bosses[ | ]
Like in the pre-boss section, this mod doesn't have much to offer currently. But you can obtain some decent alternative weapon options aside of clobbering and progressing the usual Hardmode before fighting the Mech Bosses.
Pre-Plantera[ | ]
After the fall of Mechanical Bosses, the first Ancient Duo is available to be fought. (In the current version, only one of the two are available) Defeating them will grant powerful loot as well as the loot you get from Solar Eclipse, Mechanical Bosses and other sources will be useful fighting against Plantera. Better prepare, as defeating Plantera will unlock more battles ahead of you soon...
Pre-Golem[ | ]
The fall of Plantera has unlocked lots of new areas to explore in the main game and in this mod: Also, you will be able to fight the next Ancient Duo: Athena and Greed. The battles will be tough, but offer really great loot. They should prepare you for Golem enough.
Pre-Celestial Events[ | ]
Now that Golem has fallen, a lot of stuff will happen: Martians will begin roaming your world, Cultists will do their ritual and of course, there will be more Ancients to challenge. Also, there are 2 bosses which are optional: Rajah Rabbit and Duke Fishron. Defeating them doesn't affect the progress as of now, but their drops are crucial and can help you a lot. With them, you should be ready for Moon Lord.
Pre-Moon Lord[ | ]
Get ready when you defeat the Pillars, as another gatekeeper that stands in between you and another set of new and exciting challenges awaits: The Moon Lord himself! Along with the options you have above, the pillar weapons are also added as well.
Pre-Anubis, Forsaken Judge[ | ]
After defeating Moon Lord, the Hardmode Ancients now can be refought to unlock their full potential. Anubis is the gatekeeper behind these exciting upcoming challenges, and his awakened fight is no pushover. You gotta prepare as much as you can since he can dish out lots of damage if not prepared.
Pre-Equinox Worms[ | ]
After the defeat of Anubis, Athena and Greed also have rematches to offer you with stronger loot and required to progress into the mod's story. With their weapons in your hands, you gotta prepare for the Equinox Worms, as they are another duo of gatekeepers that unlock the second wind of Ancients, which are far more stronger than the Hardmode ones. May the bravery be with you...
Pre-Sisters of Discord[ | ]
After the fall of Equinox Worms, you should be mining the celestial ore up in the space to get better gear. You are still obliged to use the stronger variants of Hardmode Ancient weapons as well, if you want to have an easier time against the Sisters of Discord.
Pre-Ancients[ | ]
Now get ready for another set of Ancients, which have more tricks and more relentless battles to offer. Currently there are only 3 post-ML Ancients: Akuma, Yamata and Zero. You can fight any of them as you wish in any order, but they are required to be beaten to unlock their respective loot, armor and Superancient battle to be challenged!
Pre-Superancients[ | ]
With the fall of the Ancients, it is time for the bigger, cooler and more intense battles ahead with Superancients! With 5 Superancients and 1 special boss in their tier, these battles will be raising the skeleton within your body up high! Their fall right now marks the end, but soon, it will be a new dawn for you sheesh... Use all the gear you got from Ancient bosses of Post-ML tier.
Endgame[ | ]
This marks the end of Ancients Awakened for now, but it is not the truly end just yet. You can do a lot of challenges for yourself, like nohitting bosses and giving Super AA add-on a try! For this tier, along with Superancient tier gear, EX weapons are also available too, which are the superior versions of their predecessors.
